Joint Press Release of the SIS and General Prosecutor’s Office

As result of multiple media requests to comment on information spread in press regarding the alleged dissension between the Security and Intelligence Service and the General Prosecutor’s Office about recent detentions in the case on alleged surveillance of a judge, we state the following:

 

The SIS denies categorically unfounded speculations and points out that criminal investigation carried out by prosecutors and intelligence officers is based on legal grounds, in accordance with criminal procedure law and sufficient evidence to state the need for such measures.

 

In line with functional competences, prosecutors conduct criminal investigation, while the SIS provides support. This fact guarantees a cooperation in strict accordance with the criminal procedure law.

 

Moreover, any significant comments on the case, at this point, could affect the confidentiality of criminal investigations. Therefore, the institution urges media representatives to refrain from speculations based on unverified sources.
