Today, June 2, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova appointed Alexandru Musteața as Director of the Security and Intelligence Service of the Republic of Moldova.
The new SIS Director was introduced to intelligence officers by Maia Sandu, President of the Republic of Moldova, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
In her speech, Maia Sandu asked intelligence officers to keep countering risks and threats to national security, especially in the context of the complex regional situation. The Head of State reiterated the major expectations of the society for the SIS but also the need to reform it, strengthen inter-institutional relations, and achieve tangible results in the near future.
During the event, the Head of State thanked the former SIS Director, Alexandr Esaulenco, for his efforts during his work and for his effective contribution to the achievement of the national security goal.
Also, the President of the Republic of Moldova emphasized the importance of preparing officers for modern challenges and carrying out institutional duties in service to citizens and country.
Alexandru Musteața, the SIS Director, listed several priorities of his mandate: comprehensive analysis of the institution's activity; review of policy documents in the field of national security (jointly with decision makers); fight against corruption; strengthening the democratic control over the institution, both via parliamentary control and increasing the trust of Moldovan citizens in the SIS, through transparency, constant dialogue and security culture.
