A Georgian citizen, wanted by INTERPOL for terrorism, was detained upon entry into the Republic of Moldova

At the end of last week, authorities responsible for ensuring state security intervened on the basis of operational information to detain suspected members of terrorist organizations, following an INTERPOL alert.

Among them was a 20-year-old citizen of the Republic of Georgia, for whom the authorities of the United States of America issued an arrest warrant for terrorism. Upon entering the Republic of Moldova, he was accompanied by another 19-year-old citizen of the Republic of Georgia, both passengers on the "Istanbul-Chișinău" flight.

The two were detained after disembarking from the aircraft and escorted for additional checks. As a result, SIS officers together with Border Police employees, found documents confirming their training in specialized military training centres, as well as multimedia materials with terrorist content.
