Role of the SIS in Ensuring National Security, Discussed with the Representatives of State Institutions and Civil Society
Today, on 24 March, the National Institute of Intelligence and Security "Bogdan, the Founder of Moldova" held a seminar on the topic “Current National Security Issues”. Postgraduate trainees in the field of security and defense from the "Alexandru cel Bun" Military Academy of Armed Forces, as well as representatives of state institutions, civil society and different religious communities attended the meeting.
The event is part of a series of activities, dedicated to 15 years since the founding of the Institute, which are aimed at rendering the intelligence activity open and transparent, developing safety culture, and establishing partnerships with the civil society.
Valeriu FURDUI, rector of the NIIS, Major-General of the SIS, talked about the role and duties of the Security and Intelligence Service in ensuring national security. Also, he made a presentation of the National Institute of Intelligence and Security, the only higher education institution which trains and upskills specialists in the field of intelligence, counterintelligence, and operative investigative activity, both for the Service needs and for other entities with duties in the field of ensuring national security.
The meeting agenda included a wide range of topics, where the teaching staff described the SIS reformation process, the existing legislative framework and the actions undertaken to promote the set of laws, which is examined at the moment by the Parliamentary Committee for National Security, Defense and Public Order. Given the spread of the terrorist phenomenon and the necessity to promote the concepts of societal security and intelligence culture, the duties of the SIS Antiterrorist Center have been discussed.
